Lawrence Silber Awarded Abe Feinstein Solicitors Award

Congratulations to Lawrence Silber, this year’s recipient of the County of Carleton Law Association’s Abe Feinstein Solicitors Award. The annual award is given to a solicitor who has distinguished themselves throughout their career by exemplary service to the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) and to the profession and has shown commitment to the community. For close to forty years, Lawrence has embodied the qualities and commitment that this award recognizes.

Lawrence has served the CCLA in many capacities including as a member of the Board of Trustees from 2015-2017. Lawrence is a former co-chair, and current member, of the planning committee for the annual solicitors’ conference. He was the chair of the CCLA Compliance-Based Entity Regulation Consultation Committee in 2016.

Lawrence’s commitment to legal education extends well beyond the CCLA. He taught property law to real estate agents as part of the broker certification process for 19 years and was an instructor for the Law Society’s bar admission course for 15 years. He is a former board member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners’ Ottawa chapter and the Canadian Association of Family Enterprises’ Ottawa Chapter.

His involvement and contribution to the Ottawa business community includes serving on the boards of public companies and chairing the Provincial Affairs Committee of the Ottawa-Carleton Board of Trade. He also served as a Board Member for the Canadian Tulip Festival.

His expertise in real estate law has contributed to several important community projects. He is the former Chair of the Board of the Soloway Jewish Community Centre and was part of the team that moved the Centre to its new location. As a member of the Board and chair of the Property and Renovations Committee for Mothercraft Ottawa, Lawrence oversaw the $1M renovation program of the organization’s headquarters. His community involvement also includes serving as a Board member and Secretary for the Kehillat Beth Israel synagogue.

Within the firm, Lawrence has always been tremendously generous with his time and advice, never hesitating to share the benefit of his experience and wisdom with those starting out. Lawrence sets an excellent example for all lawyers in his approach to the practice of law and his belief in the importance of a strong work ethic, a life of continuous teaching and learning, and community service as cornerstones of long-term success.

Congratulations, Lawrence on this well-deserved recognition.
