Litigation Associate
Kelly Santini LLP is seeking an experienced litigation associate to fill a new position that will involve practicing in the following areas:
- Estate litigation
- Employment law (management side)
- Sports law
This role offers both an opportunity to collaborate with experienced counsel on large, complex files, as well an opportunity to carry files independently.
Our ideal candidate will have 3-6 years of litigation experience, including courtroom experience and experience preparing motion/application records and facta.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years post call experience in litigation;
- Law degree from an accredited law school
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Thorough understanding of applicable provincial and federal laws, including but not limited to the Rules of Civil Procedure and the Employment Standards Act
- Demonstrated excellence in advocacy, with the ability to persuasively advance clients’ positions in motions, mediations, applications and trials
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (a bilingual candidate and/or a candidate with a partial practice is an asset)
- Solid analytical, legal research and drafting skills with strong attention to detail
- Effective client and practice management skills
Writing samples (particularly a factum), and a law school transcript are welcome.
Role Outline
Day to day duties/tasks including, but not limited to:
- Meets regularly with the supervising partner for updates on file work as well as general practice management
- Attending to urgent tasks or client requests on short notice
- Advising employers, sometimes on short notice
- Occasionally attending Court on an urgent basis
- Drafting employment agreements, termination letters, etc
- Attending to the various demands of a litigation file, including document review and drafting
Expectations:
- Commit to upholding firm values, including exceptional client service, community engagement and the advancement of diversity and inclusion
- Be a self-starter with established practice management skills is also very important.
- Conduct oneself as a team player, open to constructive criticism and points of improvement as a way to further guarantee the success of our clients
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism when interacting with clients in written or verbal form
- Seek additional ways to assist the team when time allows
