Don has been representing businesses and companies from a wide range of industries, including technology, manufacturing, construction and professional services for over 25 years. His areas of expertise include major financing, securitization, acquisitions and sales, mortgage financing, franchising, general commercial contracts and commercial real estate/ leasing.
He is also frequently called upon to deliver lectures related to Estate and Succession Planning for various organizations and associations. Active in the legal and local communities, Don served as an instructor for the Business Law and Professional Responsibility sections of the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Bar Admission Course.

Transferring the Family Business
Don has acted for the founders of successful multi-million dollar family enterprises in the re-structuring and the planning of the succession of the businesses to second generation family members. The work involved restructuring the businesses to recognize and protect the established value for the founders, minimizing current and future tax liability; shaping the future ownership and management structure, positioning future growth through appropriate shareholder agreements and estate and trust planning.
M&A – $30M Sale of Corporate Division
We have acted for a technology company specializing in the air traffic and public safety sector on the $30M sale of its air traffic division to an international, publicly traded conglomerate. The complex transaction involved negotiations over the appropriate division of intellectual property assets, the cross licensing of technology and the transfer of key employees.
