Michael Abrams is a partner in the Business Group whose clients includes home buyers and sellers, commercial real estate developers and small and mid-sized business owners. Michael's experience in business law, real estate and estate planning allows him to provide a seamless and valued added service to his clients' related needs.
 
In just a few short years Michael has developed one of the Ottawa area's most successful residential real estate practices thanks to the close, personal attention he provides each of his clients.
 
Michael never forgets how important each home transaction is to the people involved and he is committed to always being available to answer any questions about the home buying and selling process. Certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Real Estate Law, Michael's prominence as a top real estate lawyer is further enhanced by his role as an instructor for the Ontario Real Estate Association's Real Estate College licensing program.
 
Michael is also actively involved in the commercial real estate sector and regularly advises on property acquisitions and dispositions as well as the financing, planning and approvals required for commercial, residential and mixed-use developments. He assists both real estate investors and developers with preparing joint-venture agreements, conventional financing and alternate financing vehicles, condominium operations and leasing.
 
From new business incorporations, financing, buy/sells of assets and shares and shareholder agreements to on-going corporate governance issues, Michael works diligently with many business owners to ensure their on-going legal needs and obligations are being met. His business clients represent a diverse range of industries including medical professional corporations, high-tech, retail, construction and hospitality.
 
An Avid rugby enthusiast, Michael serves on the volunteer board of the Twin Elm Rugby Park and he continues to risk his ears, nose and bones playing for a local Ottawa rugby club most weekends.
 
Recent Work Experience
  1. Advised a residential property developer on the acquisition of a 77 unit condominium community. Following the acquisition Michael advised on the re-drafting of the condominium documentation and by-laws and the subsequent sale of each unit.
  2. In the role of Corporate Secretary, Michael provides on-going corporate governance advice to the Board of Directors and senior management team of a successful bio-technology company.
  3. Michael recently acted on behalf of the investors on the purchase of a multi-unit residential property. The successful completion of the $2.7M transaction required working with several financial institutions that were providing financing for the project in a tight time frame.
