Legal Assistant – Labour and Employment Law

Kelly Santini LLP has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join the litigation practice group with a focus in Labour and Employment Law. If you are looking for a career position, this role may be ideal for you. The successful candidate will draft and manage documents such as correspondence, pleadings, and other materials, communicate effectively with clients and outside counsel, and handle financial aspects of a litigation practice, including client accounts. Salary level is commensurate with experience and health benefits and pension matching are provided.

Specific Requirements of the Role:

  • Knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure with respect to:
    • Deadlines
    • Court procedures
    • Trial preparation
  • Drafting, editing and filing legal documents and correspondence (including but not limited to motion records, pre-trial/mediation memos, pleadings, affidavits of documents).
  • Creating and maintaining files in accordance with firm procedures, including opening and closing files, conflict searches, etc.
  • Acting as liaison between lawyers, clients, the courts and other third parties.
  • Performing accounting related functions including generating reports, preparing and sending invoices and following up on client accounts as required.
  • Maintaining calendars by scheduling appointments, arranging meetings, and coordinating travel arrangements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Degree or diploma received upon completion of a relevant post-secondary program such as a Legal Administration or Law Clerk.
  • Minimum two years of work experience in law office in above referenced practice areas
  • Takes initiative, able to prepare documents and correspondence with some supervision.
  • Highly organized with ability to adapt quickly, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; Professional and client-focused approach to work.
  • Committed to upholding firm values, including exceptional client service, community engagement and the advancement of diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of Ghost Practice, ACL and NetDocuments will be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Pro and Microsoft Office Suite of programs, including using advanced functionality, creating templates, sharing, and protecting documents, tracking changes, formatting and styles.
